The skill that replaced writing code
How a non-engineer directs, reviews, and extends AI-generated code, so you stay in charge of software you did not write line by line.

In plain English
The winning skill is no longer typing code from scratch; it is directing AI clearly, reviewing what it changed, and extending your app without regressions. This hub teaches that loop in plain English.
Who this is for
- Builders who rely on AI tools to write and change code
- People who want fewer broken changes and more predictable results
- Anyone who feels like the AI is driving and they are just hoping
When to use this hub
- Every time you ask an AI to change your app
- When AI edits keep causing side effects
- When you want to review a change before you keep it
The direct, review, extend loop
- Direct — Describe the change precisely, including what not to touch.
- Review — Read what the AI changed before you keep it, and reject anything out of scope.
- Extend — Keep the good change, test it, and build on it one small step at a time.

Where to go next
Extend & grow it
Put the loop to work adding real features.
Debug & fix
Use clear change requests to fix without regressions.
Understand what you built
Reviewing changes is easier once you can read your app.
Change your app on purpose
Use the change-request templates so the AI does exactly what you meant, and nothing you did not.

Direct AI FAQ
Do I need to code to direct AI well?
No. You need to describe what you want clearly, know what to protect, and review the result. This hub teaches all three without turning you into a programmer.
Why does the AI keep breaking other parts?
Usually because the request was broad or it lost context. Tight scope, "do not touch X" rules, and reviewing the change fix most of it.
How do I review a change if I can't read code well?
You can review a diff at a high level: what files changed, whether the scope matches your request, and whether anything looks risky. The diff-review guide shows how.
What are agentic coding tools?
Tools that can take a goal and make multiple changes across your app on their own. They are powerful and worth understanding before you let them run; the explainer covers day-2 implications.
What is the biggest mistake here?
Accepting large AI changes without a backup or review. Keep changes small, back up first, and read what changed.
Kodbe is an independent publication about maintaining and owning software you built with AI or no-code tools. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Kodbe Inc (the Albany, GA educational nonprofit), Kodobe, Kodable, or Kodu.
